Increasingly indispensable in various agricultural activities, drones are also part of the daily life of planted forests. Whether for spraying, pollination, launching ant baits or capturing images, drones have become indispensable tools when it comes to forest productivity. And Expoforest 2023 will have news for this segment.

Some forestry companies are investing heavily in the tool. One of them is Timber, with the XAG P100, the largest agricultural drone in Brazil. The company, Gold Class representative of the XAG brand in Brazil, has the drone with the highest capacity on the national market. The P100 is capable of transporting 40 L of solution for spraying and has an implement with 60 L of volume for solid dispersion. The equipment, which received several upgrades in addition to the increase in capacity, increases the productivity of agricultural spraying, reduces the average process time and provides more precision to the bands.

Still shy in Brazil, the engineered wood market is slowly gaining ground in buildings as an option for concrete and steel in slabs, beams, pillars, roofs, walls and trusses. The novelty offers significant environmental gains, presenting itself as one of the great solutions to reduce carbon emissions.

According to content released by the Brazilian Chamber of Construction Industry (CBIC) the market is in full growth worldwide, following the increase in adherence to the ESG (Environmental, Social, and corporate Governance) agenda. A report by the consultancy Market Research Future (MRFR) predicts a movement of up to US$ 3.6 billion by 2027. Europe is the main manufacturer and the largest consumer.

In Brazil, a pioneering project by the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism (IAU) at USP, in São Carlos, also has wood as its main raw material. The Institute’s new teaching block, which will also feature a new amphitheater, will be one of the first Brazilian public buildings with a glued laminated wood structure – material in which the IAU is a reference. “We tried to create a very comprehensive architecture of what already exists and also preserve spaces that we consider very important at the IAU. Architecture has to be sensitive to this”, says Catherine Otondo, the architect responsible for the project.

In recent days all the attention around global warming and climate change is focused on Egypt. The country hosts the 27th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27) from November 6th to 18th. The planted forest sector has important representatives, as it has a significant share in the reduction of the greenhouse effect indexes.

On the 9th, the sustainability manager of the Brazilian Tree Industry (Ibá), Renata Nishio, met with representatives of the Australian Forest Products Association (AFPA) to align details of the organization of the side event “The role of certified planted forests to maintain the goal of 1.5°C”. On the fourth day of the COP, authorities from several countries shared views and experiences on the challenges and opportunities of climate finance.

Also in Egypt are Cristiano Teixeira and Francisco Razzolini, Klabin’s general director and director of Industrial Technology, Innovation, Sustainability and Projects. The company is part of Business Leaders, the group responsible for spreading the low carbon economy. “There is an expectation that this will be the COP of implementation, where promises can be transformed into progress, and we will closely follow the negotiations, aware of the important role we have in disseminating the importance of combating climate change, and how we can contribute on this front, among the leaders of the private sector”, stated Cristiano Teixeira, who is also Climate Ambassador (SDG 13) for the Brazil Network of the UN Global Compact.
